Officially the unemployment rate is bouncing around the 9 percent mark nationally. This is only a partial truth. One which the government really does not want us to look into or fully understand. In reality, unemployment is around the 20 percent level the same as the Great Depression, maybe even a little higher.
The unemployment rate given out by our government is measured by the number of people in the workforce actively looking for jobs. Those who are in part-time and odd jobs here and there are not typically used in the figures. Nor are those who have grown discouraged from looking or that have stopped sending out resumes. If all these were to be figured in the number of unemployed would most likely be around the 23-24 percent range. This is at Great Depression levels.
Unlike the time of the Great Depression, we are not as aware of this level nor it's effects due to many government programs and charities which keep people from living through the horrors our nation did almost a century ago. It really is not difficult for anyone even with the slightest bit of ability to connect the dots to imagine the reality of where we are compared to Great Depression years. Take programs like Food Stamps, TANF, Local Food Banks out of the equation and think what things would be like on the social level at this point. Add into this the Housing market problems and Bank failures, the declining US Dollar, Loss of jobs, and the volatile Stock Market swings. Now add the growing ranks of the lower wage earners and you have an exact copy of the Great Depression. Yet our government lies to us and tries to make us believe we are in a mild recession and are pulling out of it.
Two questions come to mind here. 1)When will Washington and the major parties start to tell the truth? 2)When will we as a nation wake up and put an end to the lies?
